If you have a large wall area that needs some decorating, a couple of photos could be the perfect filler – there are actually so many creative ways to display photos that make a real impact. I know that getting images printed onto canvases is a classic favorite, but getting that done professionally can get seriously costly – especially if you want to go big. So instead of spending all that money, I found a cheat version that costs a fraction of the price but looks just as good.

You will need:
- Canvas
- Image printed on photo paper – regular paper can tear and crumple up too easily
- Mod Podge – matte was used in the video but if you prefer gloss, go for it!
- Acrylic or craft paint
- Foam brushes
The first thing to do is to paint the edges. This is isn't a necessity but it really finishes the look nicely. After that is dry, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the top of the canvas and then carefully place your photo on top. After that is set and dried, paint a thin layer of Mod Podge over the top of the image. If you plan your brush strokes well—horizontal and vertical strokes—it will really look as if the image was printed onto the canvas instead of simply glued on. It's the perfect cheat!
I love the versatility of this project; you can do family portraits (we have some great posing tips for the best snaps) or pictures of beautiful wildlife or nature that you took yourself or simply found around the internet. These also make excellent personalized gifts so keep it in mind next time a birthday comes along!
