5 Elegant Sunbathing Loungers You Can DIY – FREE Plans

Sunbathing, relaxing in the shade; whatever your preference for summertime outdoor sitting, I've got a great collection of DIY loungers that will make those warm days seem even sweeter. Whether you're planning a get-together and want something to make your guests comfortable, or you just want a bit of outdoor relaxation, there is a lounge chair in this collection for you.

Summer is great for getting outdoors and enjoying the beautiful weather. While you're lounging in the sun, be sure to check out these great sunburn remedies. Now, back to the collection. If you're looking for an easy and relatively cheap way to build your own outdoor furniture, this is it!
I love sitting outside, grilling up dinner, and generally just taking in the warmth and sunshine. Now, you can, too, and these lounge chairs are so easy to make you'll definitely want more than one. These work great with DIY cinderblock benches, too.

DIY Outdoor Chaise Lounge

You could easily drop a couple hundred bucks on a chaise like this, but you can just as easily build it yourself for around $25. This is great, and the cushions make it even better. Plus, note the wheels which allow you to easily move it from place to place, so you're always in direct sunlight or in the shade if tanning isn't quite your thing. You'll need a few power tools for this one, but it's definitely worth the effort. Borrow hubby's tools and make him a lounge chair, too!

Wood Chaise Lounge

Wood Chaise Lounge
For just $35 or so, depending on your decorating tastes, you can create this gorgeous wood chaise lounge, that has a great Adirondack look to it. I love the white on this one but it would look great no matter what color you chose. It's such a simple look but one that definitely looks inviting. The simple wooden legs are easy to create, and you can dress it up with homemade pillows to make it even less expensive than buying.

Pottery Barn Inspired Lounge

Pottery Barn Inspired Lounge
This Pottery Barn inspired lounge looks just like the Chesapeake chaise at your favorite home décor store. The difference is the price. You won't be paying hundreds for this one if you DIY it. It also has a reclining head, which is a must when you're making a lounge chair, right? You'll need to head over to the hardware store for a bit of lumber and some wood glue and other supplies. You can easily build this in an afternoon, and use it to relax later the same day!

Simple, Stable Chaise Lounge

Simple, Stable Chaise Lounge
This lounge chair is a bit different than the others. It doesn't have a reclining back area, which is good for a couple reasons. The back and headrest areas are built at a comfortable angle for the perfect relaxing lounge. Also, you don't need to buy additional hardware to make it reclining, so it's a bit cheaper than some of the others in the collection. It's still a great lounge chair, even without the reclining head, and perfect for sitting around the grill.

Slatted Lounge Chair

Slatted Lounge Chair
The small slats in this chaise lounge make it really comfortable, and you can built it easily in an afternoon. This one gives you ideas on what types of wood make the best lounge chairs, but you can use whatever you have on hand if you happen to have slats left over from other projects. This is an easy one as well, and also has a reclining back and neck area so you can really get comfortable while you're sitting in the sun or shade.
