If you are looking for a way you can dress up your house for Halloween, one of the easiest and simplest things you can do is decorate your door. It is easy to miss decorations in your yard in the dark, but nobody is going to miss the door, since trick-or-treaters need to walk right up to it to ask for the candy!
There are a number of different approaches you can take to decorate your door for Halloween. I want to share two ideas with you: monster doors and monster door wreaths.
The idea with a monster door is simple; you just use paper and other supplies to create a face on your door so that the door itself is the "monster." With a monster wreath, you are creating an adorably scary little critter that hangs on your door and greets trick-or-treaters.
Now I'm going to share my favorite monster door and monster wreath projects with you. You can duplicate these exactly or you can use them as inspiration for your own spooky Halloween door projects!
Monster Doors
1. Jack Skellington Door
Sometimes it seems bizarre to me that The Nightmare Before Christmas came out clear back in 1993—that was over two decades ago! I still remember how absolutely amazing that movie was … twenty-three years later, there still hasn't been anything else quite like it. That's why it's stayed a classic—and why even little kids today will instantly recognize the lovable face of Jack Skellington on your door. Check the link for a free printable!

2. Halloween Monster with Streamers
Here is an absolutely adorable Halloween door monster which you can make using simple supplies including a couple of paper plates and some streamers. You could probably get this done in a matter of minutes. Very cute!

3. Paper Bag Monster
Not only is this three-eyed door monster very cute and spooky (if I were a small child, I might actually think this door was ready to eat me), but it is super cheap and easy to make. You recycle paper grocery bags to do it, so the total cost is around $7. Check out the link for the full list of supplies and instructions!

4. Mike Wazowski Halloween Door
Here is a door which was recently painted a pea green color for reasons completely unrelated to Halloween. But once the door was painted, its owner realized that it was the perfect color to turn into a Mike Wazowski door! A few colored sheets of poster paper and the door was all ready to go. The door's creator points out that it is smart to laminate the sheets so that they can stand up to the weather. Check the source link for a couple other great Halloween door and window display ideas.

5. Vampire Door
Here is a more elaborate Halloween door design on the door of a classroom in a school. Isn't she adorable? All the details are amazing, especially the hair and the ruffles around her collar.
6. More Adorable Homeroom Doors
Monster doors are actually quite popular in schools. Follow the source link below and you will find a blog post which includes a whole bunch of cute and creative monster doors all located in the same school. I've shared a couple of images with you below, but it is well worth it to check the link to enjoy them all! I imagine that the combined effect walking down the hallway in the school is outstanding.

This monster door pattern is very popular; you may even find a number of different versions of it if you check around the web. In fact, below you can view a rendition for a classroom door and another on the front door of a home. It's very cute, so I can see why it is so popular!

8. Monster House
Here is a wonderfully spooky creation which takes the idea of a monster door a step further … a monster house! This is a brilliant fit with this home because of the sheltered porch; whereas monster doors are designed to look like they could eat you, you have to actually step inside the maw of this fearsome beast to ring the doorbell. The process to put it all together was pretty complicated—read the source link to find out how it was done. It was definitely worth it though; it looks absolutely amazing!

9. Eyes in the Dark
Who says that you can only put one monster on your door? This door is unique and very cute—the entire door has been redone in black and there are a number of glowing eyes peeking out from the dark. I imagine that this would look particularly great at night. If you could use glow-in-the-dark paint, the effect would be incredible!

14. Glass Door Silhouette
Okay, so technically this one is not a monster door (last time I checked, owls are considered pretty innocuous, unless you are a rodent). But it is a brilliantly simple idea to put a cut-out on your glass door and then just leave the main door open; you could easily modify this idea to include a monster sillouette like a zombie or a scarecrow.

This is one of those ideas which is just ridiculously simple, yet absolutely genius. It would be super easy to make a bunch of reaching hand cut-outs like these and tack them up in your garage windows. Backlit like this at nighttime they look amazing!

17. Zombie Apocalypse Door
I just can't get over the amazing detail and artistry which has gone into this! The project looks complicated, but there is a full tutorial over at the source link, and the artist who created it says he managed to put together everything from start to finish in just around four hours. That is seriously incredible!

Monster Wreaths
18. Cute Fluffy Monster Wreath
This is so ridiculously adorable I don't even know what to say! What is great about it too is that it would make great décor year-round in a child's bedroom. There is a full tutorial in the video, so check it out and enjoy making your own!

This isn't a typical round wreath like the one above, but it is soooo cute, and it can cover your entire door. It looks really easy to make; watch the video to see how it's done!

This delightful wreath critter has the most amazing googly eyes! Like the first wreath I shared with you, this one would also be wonderful year-round in your child's bedroom!

This monster wreath seems to have been inspired a bit by The Nightmare Before Christmas, albeit indirectly. He isn't a character from the movie, but he could easily be one of the Christmas creations that the Halloween Town residents tried to make. He's awesome in any case and perfect for two holidays!

26. Mummy Wreath
Here is one of my absolute favorites, by far one of the most unique monster wreaths I've ever seen! The supplies are so basic—muslin or gauze, googly eyes, some black duct tape, hot glue and scissors is all you need to make one of your own. This definitely has to be one of the least frightening mummies ever though; it is just way too cute for words!

27. Lots of Little Monsters
This wreath is meant for a birthday party or a gift for a teacher, but you could just as easily use it (or design one like it) for Halloween. It would be a really fun project to customize too—you could use any colors of ribbons and create any little monsters you wanted out of pretty much any materials you could get your hands on!

Decorating for Halloween doesn't have to be complicated, time-consuming or expensive. Most of these projects you could easily complete in an afternoon, and your kids will have a blast doing them with you. Have a great time making monster wreaths and monster doors for spooky Halloween fun.
