I love skittles, and I love cake, but who ever thought of combining them together into the ultimate dessert?
The answer is YouTube user Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio. I am always on the lookout for something new to try in the kitchen, especially in the dessert department. This find couldn't have come at a better time either since I wanted to find something special I could bake for my son's birthday. He's five years old and of course he loves stuff like this.
This is a fairly complicated recipe in that there are multiple components you need to make. You have to make the cake itself, and you also need to prepare the syrup. But you need to melt each color of skittles separately into different cups so that the colors don't all blend together (which I imagine would make a sort of hideous brown). Then when the cake is made you can pour each color individually into it. The different colors of skittle "syrup" will saturate the cake and result in an awesome rainbow of hues. The fruit flavors of the candy distribute as well, so this cake tastes every bit as good as it looks.
Watch the video and give it a try. Detailed instructions and ingredients here. This cake was a huge hit with my son, and everyone else in our family loved it too!
