A few years ago, I discovered a brilliant artistic technique called decoupage which has been around for centuries. Decoupage can be used to customize just about anything; it simply refers to decorating an object using paper cut-outs. To attach them, you just use Mod Podge or some other decoupage glue/gloss. The Mod Podge not only glues everything together, but seals it, creating a seamless, flat, glossy surface.
In the past, we featured a project on our site for a decoupage table and many other photo transferring ideas like how to transfer photos onto stones and to wood. Now I have a new decoupage project for you … DIY drink coasters featuring photographs!
I just adore this idea! Her photo coasters look so professional. If I didn't know better, I would have guessed they were something she paid for at a photo center. But she made them herself, and the decoupage process used is so easy. In fact, if you have ever used decoupage to do any other artistic projects, you probably already have a pretty good idea what this craft entails. In the video tutorial, she walks you through each step, and even provides you with some helpful hints along the way to get your technique right.
These would make such a great gift for relatives or friends; they are useful and meaningful, capturing special memories in a timeless form. I am going to be making one of these for everybody on my list this upcoming year. They are going to make awesome stocking stuffers!
