Have you ever wondered who, all those years ago, looked at a cow's udders and thought "Hey, I should squeeze those and drink what comes out of them!"? Or what about the person who first saw a chicken lay an egg and though "I'm going to crack that open, cook it and eat it!"? Well that's how I felt when I first saw this video; who on earth thought of mixing ice cream and flour and baking it to make bread?! It sounds absolutely crazy, but just look how well it turns out! It's truly fantastic. I wish my mind could work like that.
Unlike regular bread baking which is a rather laborious task with all the mixing, kneading, resting and kneading, this sweet bread is an absolute pleasure to make, so you might as well give it ago.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups ice cream
- 1 ½ cups self-raising flour (if you don't have any, just add 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder to plain flour)
- Yummy extras e.g. ⅓ cup chocolate chips
Leave the ice cream out for a bit before you get mixing so that it gets to a nice smooth and creamy consistency. You can use any flavor of course; in the video she uses cookies 'n cream, which I think is the absolute best choice, but it's up to you and your taste buds. Then all you do is combine it with the flour, pour it into a bread tin and pop into the oven for 40 to 45 minutes on 350°F (that's 175°C). You can customize it a bit according to your taste, like with choc chips or even just a drizzle of chocolate syrup or some fresh strawberries once it's served.
