How to Prevent Foot Blisters – You've been Tying Your Shoes Wrong All these Years!
There are certain things that you learn at a young age that you internalize and put into practice on a regular basis without any further doubts or questions. Tying (running) shoes, it seems, is one of those things. Have you ever actually asked yourself what those extra top holes are for by the laces? Surely you can't string the laces through them and then tie your little bunny ears as if everything is normal?

So, what is one of the most common problems that comes with hiking or running? Sure, it's great for your overall health—both mental and physical—but those painful blisters on your heels are enough to discourage anyone from carrying on. This is where these extra shoe lace holes come in: for what is known as a heel lock or lace lock. Basically, you make a loop on each side and cross the laces through the opposite loop to create this lock before finishing off with a regular tie. What this does is keep the ankle area tight to reduce friction on that sensitive heel area, without having to actually tighten the entire shoe; so your whole foot won't be suffocating. This also stops your toes from banging into the front of the shoe, especially when going downhill.
