Entertainment centers are ok but they are becoming more and more outdated. Built-in bookcases however, will never go out of style. These great bookshelves are from Centsational Girl and they are actually shelving units bought from IKEA. They're just tweaked a little in classic DIY fashion to give them the built-in look.
These are great because they keep everything organized and look so much better than an old entertainment center. You can even leave an open space for your computer and such if you want desk room or maybe run them around a corner wall to really customize them. The possibilities are endless!
Incidentally, this unit took only about 7 hours and less than $400 to create.
