What do you do when you wake up to fantastic sunshiny day and all you want to do is splash around in some water to cool off from the burn of the sun's piercing rays? If you don't have a pool or can't get to a beach nearby, then sadly, your dream remains but a dream. If you want to take a hands-on approach though, you could do what Facebook user, Torben Jung, did and make your own pool from pallets.
This isn't a step-by-step tutorial, but it should be pretty easy to figure out using the photos and a little bit of common sense and ingenuity on your part.
Jung started by connecting 10 pallets into a circular shape (well, a decagon to be precise).
As you can see, he used some wood pieces to connect each joining of the pallets at the top, middle and bottom; he also secured the final shape with some ties all around the perimeter.
With the first piece of tarp laid down on the floor and the finished frame set on top of it, he now needed to waterproof the entire structure with tarp. This was all then covered again with a piece of blue overlay which was then secured further with tape.
Finally, Jung finished it all off with a ledge around the top so that it looks neat and offers a place to rest your elbows and drinks. He also covered the entire thing in what looks like bamboo – a great way to hide all the tape and construction. He says the entire thing cost him about €70 which is just a little bit higher in dollars, but he didn't indicate what materials he already had at home to use. Either way, this isn't really too expensive of a project.
So what do you think? Could you make your own pallet pool? As I've said many times before, pallets should never be underestimated, and working with reclaimed wood is always rewarding. If you want to find some other great pallet uses, have a look at this garden planter; you can even make some gorgeous outdoor furniture, too!
