4 Cheap and Effective Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaners

4 Cheap and Effective Homemade Toilet Bowl Cleaners

Toilet cleaning is never fun but it doesn't have to be such a chore. Most toilet bowl cleaners contain chemicals that you may not want to use and many of them are expensive as well. There are homemade solutions that you can use to clean your toilet that do not contain harsh chemicals and the work just as well as those that you can buy in the store. We have a couple of recipes for you:

  • Sprinkle baking soda and just a few drops of lemon juice into the bowl and leave it for about an hour. Scrub with a toilet brush and flush. You can do this every day for a sparkling clean bowl.
  • Pour a 12 ounce can of Coca-Cola in the bowl and allow it to set for an hour. Coke contains acids that help to break down stains. If the bowl is really stained, you can let the Coke sit overnight and then simply flush. The cola will help to dissolve lime scale buildup.
  • Mix 2 parts of borax with 1 part lemon juice and allow to sit for an hour. Scrub and flush.
  • You can also use ½ cup baking soda, 10 drops of tea tree essential oils and ½ cup distilled white vinegar. Add the baking soda directly to your toilet bowl, followed by the oil and then the vinegar. The water will begin to bubble or effervesce for a few minutes. Once it stops, just scrub and flush.
