How to Create a Gorgeously Rustic Wooden Wine Glass Holder Bath Tray

How do you relax after a long, stressful day? My favorite thing to do is climb into a warm bath and have a nice long soak.

How to Create a Gorgeously Rustic Wooden Wine Bath Tray
To make my baths extra-relaxing, I have learned how to make my own bath salts (see recipes here), and even bath bombs (you can find out how to do that in this post).

But one thing I have been sorely lacking is a bath tray. But now I don't need to go out and buy one, because I just found out how to make one from scratch.

One amazing husband over in Imgur made an incredible present for his wife. Now available on their Etsy store. Starting out with a simple plank of wood, he designed her the most beautiful bath tray ever. Here's how you can make one for yourself or someone special in your life:

1. Start out with a plank of wood.

2. Cut two pieces measuring 32" and sand them. Smooth out the corners.

3. Add some grooves which can be used to hold a tablet or other device (you can customize this step to fit your needs).

4. Start working on the holes which can be used to hold a glass or a mug.

5. This particular design holds the wine glasses with the stems hanging beneath. So a jig saw needs to be used to cut a channel to slide in the glasses. This is a smart design because it is harder to accidentally knock over a glass.

6. Next, add recesses to hold candles.

7. Glue on some cork to serve as feet. This will prevent slippage on the bathtub edges.

8. Add your wood finish.

Isn't it breathtaking? Stunning work here—and very inspiring! Enjoy making one of your own and luxuriating in the many relaxing baths that follow! Props to Etsy user AlphaDesignCO for sharing the tutorial on imgur, if you want to buy the bath tray you can order it from Etsy.

How to Make a Gorgeous DIY Paper Flower Gift Topper

I recently managed to find an amazing gift for one of my closest friends. I'm so stoked to give it to her, but I didn't want to just pop it in a box and hand it to her. I want the entire experience to be special, which means finding a way to make her box special too. So instead of going to the store for a simple bow as a box topper, I decided I'd make one myself.

I came up with the idea of using a paper flower as a box topper. I already knew a few ways to make paper flowers—see this post and this one—but I wanted to learn something totally new!

And that leads me to present our newest exclusive video!

Video Tutorial

Materials:

Materials needed.

  1. Paper in a color of your choice
  2. Pencil
  3. Scissors
  4. Glue
  5. Decorative element for the center of the flower (optional)

Instructions:

1. Begin by using the pencil to draw 5 flowers on the paper. Each should have six petals, and they should be more or less similar. Then draw one smaller flower which also has six petals.

2. Cut the flowers out.

3. Fold the petals upward a bit so they have a more natural flowery shape. Use glue to stack them one on top of the other.

Gluing the petals.

4. If you wish, you can then add a decorative element of your choice to the center of the flower. For example, you could use a shiny metallic bead.

Finished decorative paper gift box topper.

As you can see, this is quite a convincingly realistic paper flower, and it is surprisingly easy to make your own! It looks fabulous on top of a box, so it makes a perfect present topper. But it's also a versatile decorative item you could use for a lot of other applications.

How to Create a “Floating Teacup” Centerpiece to Garnish Your Dinner Table

Whenever I throw a dinner party, I always want to do something extra special to impress my guests. For that reason, I am totally obsessed with centerpieces and table settings!

A lot of the centerpieces we've shared in the past however are really only suitable for certain holidays and events, like these 21 Christmas centerpieces and these 40 Easter centerpieces.

So I'm very excited today to share an exclusive video with you which teaches you how to make a centerpiece which is exquisitely elegant and which you could use on any occasion. It'd be wonderful for dinner parties, but also would be a superb centerpiece if you were planning a romantic dinner for two.

Video Tutorial:

Materials:

Project materials:

Teacup
Saucer
Metallic fork
Glue gun
Glue stick
Decorative flowers (Amazon.com affiliate links)

Steps:

1. Begin by bending the fork so that the tines are flattened slightly. You need to increase the amount of bend in the fork. This will allow it to stop upright on the plate.

2. The next step is to glue the fork onto the saucer so that it is standing up on its own.

3. Next you need to glue the teacup to the fork.

4. Finally, you need to coat the entire handle of the fork with glue. Before it dries, attach the flowers. Be sure that you cover the entire handle so that it appears that there is no fork.

When you are done, the teacup appears to be floating above the saucer with the flowers spilling out of it. The final effect is incredibly elegant!
